It is very important to have your questions answered when you are choosing a childcare center. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions you may have.
How do you teach kindergarten readiness skills?
Readiness skills include being able to recognize the letters of the alphabet, count to 10, recognize colors and shapes, etc. They also include social skills such as being able to share, take turns, wait their turn, make friends, solve problems, etc. All of these skills and more are developed in our play-based, child-directed, teacher supported approach. For example, a center activity may be a bingo game where your child learns to recognize the letters in BINGO or the number. Colors are always a part of art activities. Social skills are integrally involved in each activity, i.e., waiting for your turn in a game, sharing supplies, etc.
How you do teach Christianity?
We share Bible stories with the children every day and focus on Jesus and what He has done for us. The Bible stories are presented using a variety of methods, i.e., books, flannel board, drama. Teachers take turns presenting the story each day of the week. One day per week your child will attend a short chapel service conducted by Pastor Tim. We pray before each meal and celebrate Jesus love for us through our daily activities.
How do you handle discipline?
The first step taken in any discipline situation is redirection with teacher help. Additional steps would involve a 1-2-3 warning system, followed by a "break" (time-out) as necessary. If more serious problems occur, the child would be removed immediately. Continuing problems would be addressed with a behavior plan.
What kind of security do you have?
Shepherd’s Care has a proximity card security system. You will need to use your proximity card to enter the church building and the childcare itself. Both doors to the childcare are controlled by a proximity card reader. People desiring to enter the church who do not have a proximity card will need to be buzzed in by a church staff member.
Do you run background checks on your staff?
Yes, every teacher, aide and volunteer who is in our center is background checked.
